Convert QR Code to SVG

Many QR code generators output raster images (PNG or JPG). A raster QR code works fine on screens, but becomes pixelated when printed large — on banners, posters, vehicle wraps, or signage. This is especially problematic for QR codes with embedded custom graphics or logos, where the detail is lost at low resolution. Converting to SVG ensures your QR code stays crisp and scannable at any print size.

How to Convert

  1. Start from the largest, sharpest copy of your QR code — an original PNG beats a screenshot or a JPEG. Aim for at least 800 px across: at that size the squares comfortably survive the filter that strips anti-aliasing. If your only copy is smaller, enlarge it 4x before uploading.
  2. Upload the image with its white margin intact. Scanners need that quiet zone — four squares wide on every side — so do not crop tight to the pattern.
  3. Set Image Type to Design and drop the Quality Level to 2. A low setting is what makes a QR code look clean: it filters out the soft anti-aliased pixels around each square instead of tracing them as pale ghost shapes. Leave Transparent background off, or the quiet zone goes with it and the code stops scanning on a coloured layout.
  4. Click Convert and compare the preview with your original, corner squares included.
  5. Download the SVG, then scan it — on screen and on a printed proof at final size — with both an iPhone and an Android phone before sending it to print.

Tips

  • Always scan the converted code before production. Conversion cannot change the encoded link, but a dropped square or a cropped quiet zone can stop it being read.
  • A QR code with an embedded logo or custom colours traces the same way. Check the preview at full zoom: the squares should have hard edges, with no pale halo around them.
  • For print, size the code at roughly one tenth of the distance it will be scanned from — 10 cm for 1 m — and never smaller than about 2 cm.
